Hello and welcome to Septembers issue.
With Summer coming to an end and Autumn fast approaching we will see many birds starting their long Migration. Some species are known as Partial Migrants as they migrate in some places and not others for instance most Starlings that breed in Britain stay put for Winter however the Starlings that breed in Eastern Europe, where winter is so much colder will migrate to Britain for our winter. The same applies to Chaffinches, Robins, Lapwings, Coots and many other common birds. Numbers can vary depending on weather conditions.
Now is a really good time to start regularly feeding your garden birds to show them you are commited to feed them throughout the winter months. If we have another very cold winter they will rely on all of us for extra food supplies and if the number of berries on my Mountain Ash are anything to go by its going to be another long winter!
Suets, Premier Wild Bird seed and Sunflower Hearts are all very popular at the moment. Dont forget to clean your feeders and if you need to replace any please look at our selection of feeders and feeding stations in the Accessories section.
Have a great September
Sue

OUR FEEDING TIPS FOR SUMMER
Feeding birds during the summer months is equally as rewarding as during the winter months. Many birds struggle to find enough protein during very dry spell and the adult birds rely on a regular supply for their chicks.
Black sunflower seeds, raisins, mealworms, mixed seeds and peanut granules are all good foods to supply. Soft apples and pears are also a good supplement to put out on the ground or bird table.
Suet products are also worth using this time of year especially coconut suet. But do keep them out of the sun otherwise they go rancid.
Make sure peanuts are put in a nut feeder during the summer months and not loose as the fledgling birds may choke on them, peanut granules can also be used.
Mealworms are definitely worth putting out especially during a wet or cooler spell of weather when insects are less readily available.
Also make sure there is a ready supply of fresh water especially during the hotter weather. Fresh water should be supplied on a regular basis.
Lastly, by sitting quietly in your garden you can enjoy all your wild birds this summer and you never know, by regular feeding you may see a few new visitors to your garden.
